Definition of malnutrition and management of the patients
Malnutrition can be described as inadequate food intake, excessive nutrition, specific nutrient deficiencies, and disproportionate nutrient intake. In some definitions, it was stated that inflammatory activity should be added to the definition and it was described as malnutrition causing varying degrees of malnutrition and inflammatory activity, causing changes in body composition and decreased function. Malnutrition is an important disorder associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Although it can be seen in all age groups, elderly patients are more at risk. The population is getting older all over the world, and the frequency of malnutrition increases accordingly. As early recognition and treatment of malnutrition will reduce both healthcare costs per patient and morbidity and mortality.
